When Capita asked Williams&Crosby to help with their planned Innovation Week we loved the idea and put our heads together to come up with something engaging to get the creative juices flowing.
Capita, like all businesses should, value their staff and see them as a huge asset, both in their appointed roles and also in the ideas they contribute to the business and it's success.
Innovation Week was a campaign to promote staff development and encourage individuals to come up with some unique ideas that could contribute to improving what they did and the business. Each team member was asked to submit original ideas and at the end of the week submit their chosen idea to the business and marketing team. From these submissions three ideas were selected and teams formed to develop their idea over the following week. From these submissions the winner/s were announced and implemented. Our part was to create an integrated solution to get employees thinking and motivated.
We wanted to celebrate some classic innovations in our solution including inventions that varied from the tin opener to the Sinclair C5. We suggested using a larger calendar in the form of an AO poster that would cover the week leading up to the campaign as well as the Innovation Week itself. This could be displayed around the offices and included 10 count down days for the 10 working days of the campaign. Each day the poster was updated by attaching a new innovation card to provide inspiration. These cards included innovative such as the safety pin, the paper clip, Velcro etc to illustrate it can sometimes be the simplest of ideas that make a difference. Invitation to participate went out in the form of a notepad, so that participants could jot down their ideas.
In conjunction with posters, innovation cards and invite pads we designed and set up a mailshot campaign that delivered a new email every day the campaign was running. Each mailshot featured artwork that corresponded to the day's innovation cards and landed in employees mailbox before they sat at their desks in the morning. Capita really embraced the idea and loved the daily updates, especially the way the mailshots matched the daily update to the poster. The feedback was amazing, the campaign caught peoples imagination, got employees communicating and engaged and inspired some fantastic new ideas - I guess the incentive of a team prize helped! www.capitahealthandwellbeing.co.uk/
